Space Settlement Art Contest - Utopia One

Utopia One

by Geir Lanesskog

Category: Asteroid Settlements

Description: Utopia One is carved from a metal-rich asteroid that orbited between the Earth and Mars. Twenty years after the first drilling, trillions of dollars of metals had been extracted. The remaining slag was hollowed out, leaving a space nearly two kilometers long and one wide, though rock left for structural integrity and shielding leaves the habitable surface 430 meters from the axis.  It was a small habitat by later standards, but it would house over twenty thousand people in great comfort.

Medium/Tools Used: This image was created entirely in Bryce 6, straining the limits of software, computer and artist.
